Split up G.R.D.Basics into multiple modules

Description

The current Basics module has gotten rather out of hand. It ought to be split up into a collection of smaller modules.

Turns out this is essentially impossible due to various circular dependencies. But along the way I did a bit of cleaning and reorganizing which is never a bad thing.
