i realize that the current version is 0.10.1
and the version i got from darcs has the same 0.10.1 version number. this is unfortunate, because 
a) i cannot see if the ghc-pkg contains the development version or the current regular version
b) i cannot have both versions in ghc-pkg and select one or the other with dependence in cabal.

i suggest that the development verion has a separate number (and if it were only 0.10.1.1)
