Haddock barfs if used to build GHC

Description

When I tried to build a GHC 6.8.3 snapshot using Haddock 2.0.0.0, it refused, complaining that the internal version of GHC was different from the internal version of Haddock. Clearly, this is a rather huge problem if one wants to upgrade.

This has also been filed in the GHC bug tracker, see http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/ticket/2335

It would be nice if we could find a solution that does not involve bundling Haddock with GHC, so that Haddock could continue to be independently released and upgraded.

This has been fixed in the GHC build system. Haddock is now built as part of the GHC build, and used to generate the documentation for all included packages. This will be in the next GHC release (6.10.1).
