Mac Installer refuses to complete GHC installation request

I think this is not a problem with the Platform but with the 6.10.3 binary-- or else with my setup.

I had no problem installing it all on my laptop, but it has always had some version of GHC on it; now I am trying to install on a iMac with no present GHC, and, it seems the relevant Developer stuff.

But when we come to the fourth frame in the Installer gui, "Installation Type", reading "Click install to perform a standard installation of this software...", the widget that says "Install" refuses to blacken, suggesting responsiveness; all my little mouse can do is "Go Back". I notice that it does not request my password, which may be one clue.

I have kindly attached a screenshot in duplicate... note dim button in lower right.

Since the only announced dependency was the 'Xcode tools' I reinstalled them, downloading the latest from the Apple website ... and after all that, sure enough the Installer gave me a live button. Is this what happens if, say, Installer can't find the gcc, or something that's in the xcode tools package?

I don't know what the defect was in the installation before that, if that's what it was. The only thing I can think of is that it has four users and I changed the administrative structure a bit a while back...

Why is this bug marked as invalid ??

The installer should check whether the required developer tools are available, and otherwise tell the user to install them. With the current solution (disabling the Install Button only), the user neither has an idea why install refuses to start, nor what to do to fix it.

The GHC team makes the GHC installer: there should be a bug ticket filed against upstream. So I've done so:

I'm also closing this ticket: hopefully future versions of the Haskell platform will integrate better with the GHC installer, this is on my long-term radar. This may sound like a cop-out, but please be patient with us: the Macintosh installer system is like a fiendish magic puzzle which, when solved, disappears in a puff of smoke to reveal to you your present: failure and disappointment.
