Not clear how to install on ubuntu from http://hackage.haskell.org/platform/

Description

I'm assuming http://hackage.haskell.org/platform/ is the main landing page for the project. (If I'm wrong, please let me know where I should start and reject this ticket!)

I'm on Ubuntu, but the ubuntu bullet under "Linux" is not linked.

So I try Debian. The link there is to http://wiki.debian.org/Haskell/Platform which looks like a project plan. I'm not clear how to install from there.

I consider the source option: however the tarball notes say "Note: the source tarball requires that you already have ghc-6.10.3 (or 6.10.4) installed." This is no good, as the Ubuntu Jaunty repos only have ghc-6.8...

I believe I can (somehow - not quite clear on details) track down and install ghc 6.10.4 from the debian repos, after which I can then use the source installer to get the platform stuff. But I thought I'd let you know, as this experience so far isn't "batteries included" ;-)

Hi people, a bit of good news here:

I'm already using GHC 6.10.4 on Ubuntu Jaunty. There's a good PPA (Personal Package Archihing how ve) providing up-to-date versions of GHC, Haddock, etc.

I've found this tutorial (very good and easy to follow) telling how to install GHC 6.10.4 from the PPA and then the Platform (with the source package). I didn't - still - try the Platform installation, but I already use the GHC 6.10 PPA since April and it's very trustworthy.

SHAME ON ME! Forgot to paste the link of the tutorial. Here it goes: http://sitr.us/2009/07/02/how-to-install-haskell-platform-on-ubuntu-jaunty.html

Once the Debian team is done, Ubuntu support in binary form will follow.
